October 2nd 2021 at 10:00am - Thackray Museum Lectures - Zoom or Thackray Museum

ANNUAL LECTURE SERIES

The Thackray medical lectures are starting up again on Saturday 2nd October.

This time they are taking place at the museum (£10) and also online (£6).

Usually they organise 6 meetings over the winter, with two lectures each time, but this season they've added a seventh meeting on April 2nd.

They always start at 10.00 and end around 12.30 on the first Saturday of the month.

For the titles of all the lectures (and some information) please click on this link:   http://www.thackraymedicalmuseum.co.uk/whatson/

Example, on November 6th:  Tim Sutherland: Investigating Human Remains from the Battle of Towton, Yorkshire.

There seems to be a problem with their online booking system, (which I've notified them about), but you should soon be able to purchase tickets* on their website.

Please click on this link:   https://tickets.thackraymedicalmuseum.co.uk/webstore/shop/viewItems.aspx?cg=INS&c=OSL

*At the moment it seems to be more expensive to buy the full online series (£49) than it is to buy each session separately (£6 each).  (???)

We're hoping to organise another visit to the Thackray Museum. They've not yet finalised their group rates, but they should be able to let us know soon.

I was told:  "The museum has been through a £4m redevelopment with 11 new galleries, so definitely worth a visit."     Watch this space!

October 20th 2021 at 10:00am - Portholme - Legal & General Modular Homes - Sherburn in Elmet

LEGAL & GENERAL MODULAR HOMES FACTORY TOUR

The Legal & General modular factory is situated on the industrial estate in Sherburn in Elmet. In the few years they have been there they have constructed 102 highly efficient homes, some are 2/3-bedroom houses and the rest are 1/2-bedroom apartments. They have been skillfully designed to achieve Energy Performance Certificate Standard A, currently only attained by around 1% of new homes. These modular homes are now located in Portholme Road in the centre of Selby.

The scheme is set for completion by the end of 2021, and first residents should be moving into their new homes this autumn.

They have offered us two separate dates:    Wednesday 20th October or Tuesday 2nd November

Starting at 10.00am they will first give us a tour of the factory in Sherburn,

after which we will be able to go to the Portholme estate to view some of the homes.

For more information plus a short video please click on this link:   https://www.legalandgeneral.com/modular-homes/benefits-of-modular/

If you would like to join us for one of these tours please contact Wendy Harvey:  harveyw145@gmail.com

We only have ten places for each tour, so if you are free on both dates, it may make it easier for me to create the two lists of names.

You will be able to park on site, but they will need to know how many cars to expect. Please let me have your registration number.
